Cologne, Germany

The Department of Business Administration and Management at the University of Applied Sciences Cologne, also known as Fachhochschule Köln, is one of the largest departments of its kind in Germany with an enrollment of approximately 200 students each semester and a faculty of 50 full professors. Many of our professors have significant experience in the private sector and maintain close contacts with the local industry. An example of this is our private bank-sponsored study program in bank management. Our university is situated in an attractive location close to the center of the city of Cologne and the banks of the river Rhine. In a 1995 ranking undertaken by "Manager Magazine", our department ranked 14 out of the 120 German-Speaking universities selected.

By providing practice-oriented higher education, Universities of Applied Sciences play an important role in the German university system. The Fachhochschuldiploma ranks between a Bachelor (Honors) and Masters Degree and is highly recognized by employers in Germany. In an effort to promote international comparability of its higher education system and to facilitate international cooperation, the German Federal and State governments have recently endorsed a new policy that enables Universities of Applied Sciences to offer Bachelor and Master programs.

Our department is eager to take full advantage of this new policy and is actively seeking to widen and deepen its international links with the emphasis being to develop joint international studies programs at the undergraduate and postgraduate level in which student and staff exchanges would play an important role.
